What is it?

Winroids is an Asteroids clone with ray-traced sprites and digital sound effects. Steve Baxter wrote it in 1994 to see whether a decent Windows game could run in a window instead of taking over the whole screen. It did all right, and reached number 63 in one of the shareware charts of the day.

This version runs in your browser, on a computer or a phone, and it was rebuilt from the original program. It plays the way it did in 1994. The sprites have been re-rendered at a higher resolution for modern screens, and hopefully they still look like the 90s.

Credits

Written in 1994 by Steve Baxter, who runs Kuamka now. The graphics were ray-traced in POV-Ray, on hardware that took its time.
